Oh, the holidays.
It’s easy to get caught up in the sales, the parties, the ever indulgent family traditions. My credit card and waistline can attest to that.
For all the planning and attention I’ve paid to the gifts I’m giving and the events I’m attending, I’m ashamed at how little I’ve thought about giving back.
And giving back is what the holidays are all about, aren’t they?
There’s no time like the present, no day like today to make a change. Especially today.
Not only is it December 1st (the start of advent calendar season), but it’s also Giving Tuesday.
Yes, it’s a real thing. And yes, it’s the largest online giving day of the year.
Now, taking out one’s credit card and making a donation is the easy part. Finding the right cause or charity to give to, with limited time and on a tiny screen, is the hard part.
That’s why I co-founded Bridge2Act. It’s also why I’ve also created this 25 Days Of Giving challenge.
Each day’s action is meant to take no more than 15 minutes. The actions are a mix of item and money donations (the latter is powered by B2A), readings and videos, petitions, and so on. These small actions can add up to big results:
- Your old workwear, donated to Cuyana’s Lean Closet program, is a job interview outfit for a woman who had to leave her entire life behind.
- $40 to the Karam Foundation provides food and heat to a family of 4 in a refugee camp.
- Signing a petition on Global Citizen draws the attention of world leaders, who commit to massive programs.
I encourage you all to give, any way you can, on this #GivingTuesday. And I hope you join the 25 Days Of Giving challenge as well :)
‘Tis the season to make a world a better place, after all.
To participate in the 25 Days Of Giving challenge, you can sign up for this newsletter, which will send you the day’s challenge every morning. You can also bookmark this page and click on each day’s action.
