Freebie Friday: What Matters Now

"For every girl who is educated above the average, her wages increase 15%" -Room to Read

In an effort to get out of my Friday slump, I am going to attempt to introduce a new feature on this blog: Freebie Friday.

It’s self-explanatory; in my hours-long perusals of the Internet, I will post a free something (ebook, song, download, etc.) that piqued my interest and hopefully will do the same for you.

This week’s Freebie Friday is the free eBook compiled by Seth Godin What Matters Now.  Collecting brief, 200-word summations on a single concept/idea/topic from prolific Internet personalities (my personal favorites Penelope Trunk, Ramit Sethi, Gary Vaynerchuk all contributed to the work), Godin put together a concise, inspirational read that kicked me out of my funk and into productivity.

As a social mediaphile, he encourages this book to be shared.  So tweet the link, post a review to your blog, e-mail the PDF to colleagues and friends, and print it out and hand it to your old-school parents.  I printed my favorite essays and plan to hang them above my desk.  Spread the word, however you like.

Godin also brings attention to Room To Read, a nonprofit seeking to expand educational opportunities (building schools and libraries, publishing local language literature, focusing on education for girls) to Asian and African countries.  It’s worth it to check out the website and the cause; my favorite NYTimes columnists Friedman and Kristof consistently preach the benefits of establishing strong educational programs in developing nations, and this charity is doing excellent work in just that.

So download the book, check out the website, and enjoy the first (of many, I hope) Freebie Fridays.
