Hitha: Pharma geek, writer…and now grad student

In approximately 21 minutes from now, the online portal for MET AD 642: Project Management will open.  And I will have to kiss good-bye the little precious free time I have.

But it’s okay.  Really.

Okay, not really.  But I’ll make my peace with it.

I spent a lot of time last year figuring out what to do with my life.  While the bigger picture is a continual work in progress, I did make two decisions: find a new job, and pursue a master’s degree.  And did both (yay!) by accepting an offer with the family business, and got accepted into two programs: Villanova University’s post-graduate certificate in business administration, and Boston University’s master’s in project management.

I opted for the Villanova program at first, thinking I would be still spending most of my time in PA.  And after spending summer semester commuting from North Jersey to the Main Line twice a week to sit in an accounting class that sometimes put me to sleep, I knew I simply couldn’t do this for another two years.

Enter BU and its convenient online program in a subject that would help me figure out what it is I’m doing in my job.  Win-win.  I  applied, got accepted, and immediately entered that new information to my Facebook profile.

I’ve enjoyed calling myself a graduate student for a few months now, but when the intimidating 24-page syllabus arrived in my inbox last month, I got a little nervous.

Then discovered my textbooks were available for the Kindle, and rejoiced!  (Note: still haven’t cracked open those book files yet).

The self-paced orientation was made available last Monday.  I got around to completing it last night.  Got a tad more nervous, then realized The Good Wife was on TV.

And now, in approximately 13 minutes, the course will officially open up.  And I have no TV shows, no gadgets to distract me.  Just this crazy syllabus, a fresh notebook and folder, my computer, and me.

Wish me luck.
