January gloom. Not great for being out and about, but EXCELLENT for curling up at home with new books, shows, and carbohydrates.

The important things first – carbs. I’ve eaten my weight in Annie’s Homegrown macaroni & cheese, jazzing up the cheese sauce with French butter, a tablespoon of Dijon mustard, a few pinches of cayenne. Needless to say, breakfast and lunch are on the healthy end to compensate for my mac-and-cheese addiction. But not nearly as tasty. Even though my Kindle Paperwhite was in fine condition, I splurged for the new Kindle Voyage. I don’t know if it’s an uptick in reading or the fancy backlight features, but the battery dies faster than my original. That’s my only complaint – otherwise, I’m obsessed with the device. I christened it with Station Eleven – a novel unlike anything I’ve ever read. The book is set in a post-pandemic world where the remnants of humanity live in a 19th century world, with the characters’ stories pre- and post-pandemic are elegantly woven together. Big thanks to Jaclyn Day for the recommendation. Another standout book from last month was Jennifer, Gwyneth & Me. Title aside, I adored every word of Rachel Bertsche’s quest to improve aspects of her life with various celebrity endorsed methods. It’s easy to write off this book as a fluffy chick-lit read, but I was impressed by the author’s deeper insights on self-motivation, cultural observations on our increasingly celebrity-obsessed culture, and her own journey to motherhood. Rounding out the entertainment favorites are Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (if you’re having superhero movie withdrawals, this show is for you) and the Startup podcast, which I empathetically binge listened to on my morning treadmill walks. I’ve been slathering Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream on my face every morning and night, and have noticed a tremendous improvement in my skin’s texture and tone. While the product is a splurge, I find it to be worth every penny. The same goes for my Lily Jade bag. This roomy and stylish tote has been my go-to for the days I have to leave the house (which, let’s be honest, isn’t that much). I’m going to share my personal organization system in an upcoming post, but wanted to feature my favorite Graphic Image notebook and Le Pen pens, as they are an instrumental part of my #GSDgetshitdone routine.

5 more weeks of winter AND pregnancy! Bring it on.
