A New York Minute

I spent a whirlwind 24 hours in NYC on Saturday/Sunday that felt like a minute.  The day was filled with friends (and geniuses), food, drinks, and traipsing around the city in my Urban Outfitters booties and massive bag.

Many of the places I hit up have been added to my favorites in NYC: here you go, in chronological order.

1.  The Princeton Club

My father, easily the smartest person I know, happens to be an alumnus of IIT Bombay (a school whose rejected applicants attend Harvard and MIT).  The local alumni chapter was hosting an event in the city on Saturday, and my father told invited me to tag along.  I’m glad I did, because I got to meet some of my dad’s fellow college friends, discovered that engineering alums from the 90s all work in finance, and that David Rubenstein owns the Magna Carta and Emancipation Proclimation.  The food wasn’t bad too.

2.  The Ainsworth

Never would I have believed that the words “luxe” and “sports bar” would be in the same sentence, but there’s no other way to describe it.  On the recommendation of my friend Sami, me and the Monas met up there to watch some games (I caught the beginning of Nebraska’s massacre of my darling Huskies), nosh on nachos, and laugh.  A lot.  I love it when my friends meet and get along, and like it even more when I can catch college football at the same time.  A word to the wise, SEC fans – this place is BAMA country.  Leave your Auburn gear at home…

3.  Dos Caminos Meatpacking

Still a little hungry after Ainsworth, S & I headed down to Dos Caminos in Meatpacking for margs and munchies.  I died for their mango-jalapeño margaritas and spicy guacamole.  I liked the people-watching scene at this DC location vs. others in the city – especially with the gorgeous weather in NYC that day.

4.  Le Souk

After vegging on S’s couch (and getting hooked on yet another wedding show – Four Weddings), and finally getting ready, I headed to Le Souk for rmitty‘s birthday shenanigans, starting at Le Souk.  After going to the old, closed location (Google, get it together), I made it…albeit late, even by Indian standards.  Though stuffed from Dos Caminos, I still noshed on the roasted veggies, tender chicken, and R’s red velvet cake.  And lots of sangria.  The bellydancers were fun, as were meeting IRL-turned-twitter friends lydialeavitt, Ppat24, and Uneebriated.  The bar we headed to afterwards was okay (NYU crowd, overcrowded, and the bar itself was thoroughly unmemorable), but I had a great time once I sequestered myself and my ailing feet in a chair.

5.  Three Stars Diner

This diner is legit – not only did they make my requested concoction of hash browns smothered in cheese and tabasco, they serve drinks 24/7!  Why I thought a Bloody Mary (and L and P thought white zin) were good ideas at 4:30 a.m is still behind me, but I digress.  The meal and listening to R speak in broken French was the perfect ending to the night.

The next day, I reconvened at S’s, met up with a Mona for lunch, and finally made my way back home.

With a Taco Bell pit stop on the way.

And went to bed at 8:00 p.m. that night.

All in all, a solid 24 hours.
