8:00 a.m – the best alarm is your kid laughing with your husband. I smile as I stretch, quickly drink the water and take the vitamins on my nightstand, and make my way to the bathroom. Sundays are our ‘family adventure days’, and I want to get out the door as quickly as possible.
8:45 a.m – I head to the kitchen, showered and dressed in my new shirt and high-waisted jeans. Sri leaves to get ready while I make us all breakfast (a frozen waffle and berries for Rho, and Daily Harvest smoothies for us) and get everything in my backpack. Diapers and wipes – check. A sippy cup with water – check. A WaterWow pad and a few books – check. My own wallet, phone, and hand sanitizer – check. We’re all set!
9:45 a.m – we’re out the door (with Rho wearing his matching shirt) and start walking down to the American Museum of Natural History. After getting our tickets for the butterfly pavilion and the mummy exhibit, we make our way to second floor and the African Mammals exhibit.
11:00 a.m – neither Sri nor I are paying much attention to the museum. Instead, our full focus is on Rho as he grabs our hand and struts through the rooms, pointing out various animals and making their sounds. We somehow end up in the Asian history wing, where he puts his hands together and says “pray!” anytime he sees a Buddha. When did my tiny baby grow up into this boy? It makes me extraordinarily sad and happy at the same time. May he always be so adventurous and so happy.
12:15 p.m – after a quick bench picnic of Nathan’s hot dogs, we head over to Book Culture across the street. I see my book arranged on the travel table and lose any cool I had. The store associates ask if I want to sign the books – which I happily do, and then share on Instagram Stories. I also pick up Sweetbitter and a few Blind Date books while Rho and Sri play downstairs in the children’s area. Rho’s firmly gripping this Elmo book set, which we also buy. He holds it as we strap him back into the stroller and walk to meet family for brunch.
1:45 p.m – Rho is OUT. While he naps in his stroller, we enjoy brunch with Sri’s cousin and his little family. Their son is 10 months younger than Rho and fully awake. We order our meal and entertain Dev with Rho’s collection of toys in my bag while we eat and catch up.
3:30 p.m – having outdoor space in NYC is a luxury, and one we don’t take forgranted. We let the boys play while we sit and talk about upcoming travels, work, and about family. “What a perfect day,” I think, over and over again. But I could use a nap…
5:00 p.m – I sucuumb to Rho’s “Moana!” request and put it on while I read/nap on the couch next to him. Sri’s also in the room, playing Zelda on his Nintendo Switch. At least, that’s what I think he’s doing…
6:45 p.m – dinner is finished (we ordered Indian for ourselves and fed Rho fish sticks, hummus, and yogurt), and Sri’s getting Rho ready for bed. I sip my wine and eat a frozen peanut butter cup while watching Real Housewives. Self-care game is going strong…
8:00 p.m – I didn’t do a full Sunday Setup, but I do manage to wash my brushes and refill my vitamins. I apply this mask and relax in a hot bath, while continuing to read Cork Dork. I wash off the mask and swipe this pad over my face and neck, slip on these pajamas, and get ready for bed.
9:30 p.m -Â I’m out. Which is good, because my alarm is set for 5 a.m. the next morning…
