Much of the allure in booking our vacation to Iceland was its brisk temperatures; after a scorcher of a summer in NYC, I was looking forward to being cold – and I got my wish. The weather here matches the fall/winter cusp on the East Coast, and I piled on my city-wandering warmest: leggings, a cozy sweater (that I wish I had belted…and remembered to pack a belt), and my saving-grace Tahari jacket that is both weatherproof and chic. The hat masked the disaster that was my hair post-whalewatching (more on that later). This outfit resembled that of many women strolling around Reykjavik – however, their ability to make Gortex look chic is still a mystery to me.
