Flight Follies and Faux Pas

Two headlines regarding flights caught my eyes today – one hilarious, and one hilariously awkward.

First, the hilarious: a pillow fight broke out on a Lufthansa flight.  In my 100K+ miles flown on that airline, I have NEVER seen that happen (and wish I had).  Check it out below:

I love that the flight attendant got in the action.  Job satisfaction can be found in the most unexpected ways, no?

It wasn’t such a fun day, however, for this JetBlue flight attendant.

Steven Slater, after being called a “motherf*#$er off” by a passenger who got up too early to retrieve his luggage from the overhead bin, promptly hopped on the intercom and exclaimed “To the passenger who called me a motherf*#$er, f*#$ you.  I’ve been in the business 28 years.  I’ve had it.  That’s it.”  He promptly pulled the emergency slide, grabbed a beer from the beverage cart, slid down and ran to his car.

I commend Steven Slater, who understandably had enough of rude, rule-breaking passengers.  While I may not have been so dramatic in my expression, I can feel where he’s coming from.  He’s simply trying to do his job, and is getting shit for it.  ‘Twas the straw that broke the camel’s back for Steven Slater, who was later arrested at his Queens home (his ejection of the emergency slide was deemed criminal mischief and reckless endangerment).  I wish I knew what the rule-breaking passenger’s reaction was, but I can imagine he won’t be prematurely getting out of his seat anytime soon.

Passengers – just follow the rules.  It’ll prevent more flight attendants from going off the rails.  (I’m no angel, waiting until the last possible moment to turn off my Kindle and turning on my BlackBerry the second we land, but I’m not up and reaching for my baggage when the plane is still taxiing).

Unless you’re about to initiate a pillow fight.  In which case, make sure you’re on my flight.
