Millions of babies are born every day. And seemingly to your friends and family members at the moment.
Where there’s a newborn, there’s an exhausted woman that you love.
And if you’re visiting said woman in her first weeks as a mother, bring one of these along.
And watch the baby so she can bathe. Or nap. Or both. Because ‘alone time’ is the best gift a new mother can receive.
These items are a close second. And I’m beyond grateful to the friends who gifted me these items and thus inspired the post. You guys rock.
- Nothing beats dinner getting delivered straight to your door. Gift certificates from her favorite meal delivery service – Postmates, Seamless, GrubHub, or Munchery. Health-conscious gals will love meals from Sakara Life (in New York) or Paleta (in Los Angeles). You can also bring date night home via KitchenSurfing.
- Every pregnant woman has a list of ‘can’t wait to eat and drink these’ items. Mine was all the cheese, wine, and sushi. Some friends sent over the most amazing selection of cheese and a bottle of prosecco. I was thrilled.
- Date nights become even more important when you have a little human to keep alive. Take the planning out of their next night out with a gift certificate to her favorite restaurant. Bonus points if you offer to babysit as well.
- Homemade meals from your chef buddies are the. best. thing. ever. When you haven’t eaten for 6 hours and can’t wait for the half-hour delivery time, some homemade chili and an episode of Real Housewives can feel like a veritable vacation.
- There’s something about freshly blown out hair that makes me feel like a new woman. Even if I’m still in pajamas and folding tiny baby clothes. At-home beauty services (via Glamsquad, Priv, Zeel, or even a manicure from a friend) do wonders for helping a woman feel more like herself.
- Bathing can feel like a luxury when you have just a minute or two. Really nice bath products make that minute feel even more luxurious. This makes a great gift for pregnant women too.
- I literally had a pain in my neck two weeks after Rho was born. Having a spa gift certificate on hand saved it.
- I loved the Glossier set before, but am fully obsessed with it now. Anything that makes me look better with minimal effort is a massive win.
- Pajamas are the uniform du jour for a new mom. Make sure she’s clad in a nice pair.
- Capes are always stylish. They’re also incredibly comfortable, and can be thrown over a baby carrier or a hospital gown. If this one from Cuyana is a bit out of budget, Topshop has some excellent ones as well.
- New moms love a delicate piece of jewelry to honor their little nugget. BaubleBar, GV by Gemvara, and Maya Brenner have some gorgeous options.
- Granny panties are a downright necessity post-birth. Dear Kates make the best ones. While it’s not the most Instagrammable of gifts, it will be the most appreciated. Fact.
The best gift you can give a new mom is completely free. It’s time. Give her an hour to take a bath, take a walk solo, go get a manicure, or just sleep.
Wine also helps.
