Go-To Wedding Gifts

It’s wedding season!  I’m heading to Colorado this week for the wedding of one of my best friends, pink bridesmaid dress and silver shoes in tow.  The wedding gift was already sent, but as I prepare for the 6 other weddings I’m attending this year (and my own) and stalk registries, I am reminded of the struggle between purchasing the happy couple something they want and something original.

And while it mainly depends on the bride and groom, I’ve put together a list of wedding gifts off the beaten path to give you some non-registry options.  Happy shopping and happy registering!

canvaspop gift certificate

Canvaspop is a fantastic website that allows you to transform a photo into a beautiful canvas print ready for hanging.  A gift certificate allows the happy couple to use their favorite wedding picture, a fabulous snap from the honeymoon, or one of their favorite old pictures.  $100, an appropriate cash amount as a wedding gift, allows for the most flexibility for the new Mr. and Mrs.  Buy it here.

Kyocera ceramic knife

My aunt in Canada, arguably one of the best cooks in the family, raved about her ceramic knife (and continued to use it even after the tip broke off).  I’ve since purchased her a replacement and added one for my mother on a recent Gilt sale.  After dicing an onion as fast and clean as a Food Network chef with the knife, I immediately added one to my registry.  If your friends are big chefs, this is a must buy.  Get it here.

TV blankets

My sister-in-law* purchased these comfy cozy throws as an engagement gift for my FH and myself, and they have been perfect for our lazy Saturday nights in front of the TV.  I suggest sticking to the cream or slate colors so your choices won’t clash with the Mr. & Mrs.’ living room decor.

Ugallery

Blank walls usually are covered by pieces of art.  Original art tends to be pricey.  However, the smart folks at Ugallery (fellow Pac-10 alums, as well) found a way to make beautiful, original art available to the masses at a wallet-friendly price point.  If your friends have a new home with lots of empty walls, give them a Ugallery gift card and help them decorate their new nest.

And if you’re really stumped for wedding gifts, sticking to the registry is always a safe bet.

Happy wedding season!
