Health On The Go: Vitamins

Take your pills, people. The good ones.

I’ve been feeling pretty weak and fatigued over the past two months.  At first, I thought it was my lack of sleep due to juggling work, graduate school, and wedding planning.

So I got more sleep.  It didn’t help.

Then I thought it may be caused by my heavy caffeine dependence.

I cut it down to no more than two cups of coffee during the day, drank lots more water, and exercised more.  Nothing.

It must be nutrition, I believed.  Maybe my weekly Taco Bell meals aren’t the best for me.

Started taking vitamins, and eating more salads.  A little better, but still no dice.

I gave up and finally went to the doctor.  One blood test and three days later, I found out it was anemia.  I needed more iron.  The vitamins, he said, were certainly helping, but I needed an additional iron supplement.  He also recommended an energy boosting multivitamin to help me keep up with my schedule.

Moral of the story: take your vitamins, people.  It’s the easiest thing you can do for your overall health.  Consider additional supplements if you’re feeling off.

And talk to your doctor before you go on a self-diagnosis tangent.  Or take anything new/different.
