It’s been nearly two years since I’ve taken a proper vacation. Â My honeymoon is the next one I will take, and I couldn’t be more excited. Â The new hubby and I will be spending 7 blissful, work/computer/(maybe)BlackBerry-free days in the Maldives after our 3-day wedding celebrations (and a New Year’s bash), and I can’t help but visit the resort’s website daily, marveling at the perfectly turquoise waters, white beaches, and gorgeous water villas.
Bathing suits and *ahem* nightwear does not a honeymoon wardrobe make, and I’ve been putting together my list of essentials to pack for my Maldivian getaway. Â Here are my picks:
LL Bean monogrammed tote – What better way to show off my new name than with a new monogrammed tote? Perfect for the plane ride, beach trips, and life post-honeymoon, an L.L. Bean tote emblazoned with my new initials HPN is a classic (and practical) way to celebrate my newly-married status.
Matiko sandals – These bejeweled, comfortable sandals are perfect for wearing under my reception lengha when I’m ready to dance and for walking to the stunning white beach in Male. Â I love the classic style, bold color, and the sparkle embellishment details.
Express ruffled dress – A pretty, ruffled dress is a must-have for a tropical getaway. Â This little number from Express is flattering, wallet-friendly, and will show off my unnecessary-yet-unavoidable tan nicely.
Alanna Bess “Isle of Capri” necklace – I rarely travel without my lovely Isle of Capri necklace, but this will be a must-pack for my honeymoon bag. Â The necklace is so versatile, with it’s ability to be worn as a belt and bracelet. Â From cinching the caftan at the waist to doubling it up around my neck with the ruffled sundress, I know that this piece will be worn with every outfit imaginable.
French Connection caftan – I have plenty of wraps and tunics to throw over my bathing suit, but this caftan fills the gap of “swimsuit coverups” nicely. Â While my sundresses and shorts/tanks are fine for beach trips and water parks, I have the sneaking suspicion that they won’t cut it at the Alila. Â This chic caftan certainly will.
Target sun hat – While I’m blessed with skin that rarely burns, I still take precautions at the beach with sunscreen, sunglasses, and a large hat.  This floppy hat packs extremely well and provides ample protection from the sun with its wide circumference.
Hayden black cashmere-cotton hoodie – I’m strictly anti-“Bride/Mrs. X” clothing – to me, it’s wearable for a narrow window in time, and I would rather buy a more timeless piece. This cotton-cashmere hoodie is not only perfect for the plane ride, but will help block the chill of the New York air upon arrival from paradise.  I plan on getting the hoodie monogrammed with my new initials to wear throughout my marriage.  What can I say?  I love monograms :)
Brides-to-be, what’s in your honeymoon suitcase? Â Wives, what was your “must-pack” for your honeymoon?
