I showed a peek of my fitness bag in this post, but wanted to elaborate on how I stay in shape (especially while traveling).  While lugging a suitcase and heavy tote around airports can work up a sweat, it’s not the same as a consistent fitness routine.  These resources and items are fantastic for working out anywhere – at home, on the road,  Below are my essentials for staying in shape while on the go.
Equipment: resistance bands, jump rope, yoga towel
Resources: Tone It Up workouts, Blogilates videos on iPad
Music: DJ Ravi Jackson mixes, Spotify playlist on iPhone
Having the equipment and resources is only (unfortunately) half the battle – getting the workouts in is another story.  I’ve been forcing myself to work out first thing in the morning – no checking e-mails, Twitter, or Google Reader until I’m done.  I alternate between high intensity interval (HIIT) cardio sessions and strength workouts, with yoga sessions thrown in weekly for good measure.  I work out for 30-45 minutes every morning, and I’m finding that it’s the best way to start my day.
Many thanks to Kris at Young Married Chic for getting me hooked on both Blogilates and Tone It Up – these workouts are killer, but so worth it (and free!).
