I really struggled with what to write today.
Style essentials for New York’s bipolar spring weather? Nah.
A reading list? Awesome, except my current literary tastes are embarrassing.
An outfit? Just did that.
Honestly, all I want to write is a quick update. No frills – just me, talking to you.
Grab a cup of tea (or wine), and let’s chat. How are you?
I’m a little shaken from the Ecuador earthquake. If you’re looking for a personal way to give back, my friends Nathalie and Nina (both Ecuadorians) started a GoFundMe campaign that’s collecting funds for suffering families they know personally.
Both women are not only amazing, but have the highest integrity. I trust them to get my donation where it’s needed most.
Aside from world tragedies (let’s not even talk about today’s primary contest), I’m doing pretty good. Pretty, pretty, pretty good.
The book is in final edits, with the FINAL final version (images, layout, everything) due at the end of May. At Bridge2Act, we’ve been busy courting new charities and publishers while trying to figure out how to better communicate and engage with you.
One such idea? NO.GIFTS. As we get older, birthdays are less about accumulating stuff and surviving hangovers and more about intimate celebrations and making an impact. Rather than picking a specific charity or project, we wanted to create an opportunity to select multiple causes and organizations that speak to you – both as the birthday gal/guy, but also as a loved one (Internet friends totally count).
I would love all your feedback (the good, the bad, the ugly). We just launched the beta (read: the no-frills version to see if you like it), and the feedback we get here will influence the bells and whistles product (as in, allowing you to create a link and see who donates) in the near future.
On the personal front – things are better than good. My baby has become a boy – running around (and promptly falling down), trying to figure out how things work, eating everything (and then hurling it at the floor or in his hair). This age is so much fun, and I do my best to give him several hours of mommy-son time every day. We’ve been taking a morning walk along the river every morning (before his nanny arrives and I run off to work), and it’s been a really great way to start each day.
Marriage is good, too. We’re in a great place, which is a result of working on our relationship. While it’s not easy, it’s most definitely worth it. S, you rock.
We’re also getting ready for a move (still in New York, but different neighborhood), which has us in a flurry of organizing and purging, design planning, and a whole lot of daydreaming of our new space. I’ve been working with I Need My Space to help us eliminate excess stuff and organize what we have in advance of our move. Debbie (the founder) is AMAZING – she’s like a normal Marie Kondo, who also seems to know everything and everyone (closet designers, movers, chefs). Get at her if you live in New York and have a move ahead.
My designer, Brett, is a BOSS. Two words – monkey wallpaper.
I’m sorry. I just kept talking and talking, like a not-so-favorite NYC Housewife (*cough*RAMONA*cough). How are you? What’s new with you?
My tea is poured. I’d love to know.
