“I need a vacation” is a phrase uttered more times than I’d like to admit in our home.
In fact, if we started a jar to collect a $1 each time we said it, we’d probably have enough cash for said vacation.
Prior to Rho’s arrival, my idea of a vacation was a lengthy trip to some far-flung destination. These days, a weekend with a comfortable bed, great food, and a spa treatment will do. If there’s room service and blackout shades involved, I’m in heaven.
When Royal Caribbean extended an invitation for a two-day sail on their new ship, my answer was a resounding yes.
The first thing I did was call my mother-in-law to see if she could babysit. The second – a lengthy binge read of the website, outlining the features of Anthem.
Anthem of the Seas, Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, is pretty incredible. Robot bartenders pretty much sold me immediately. There’s also a skydiving experience, an amazing active space boasting bumper cars, roller skating, and circus school). And the food? Chefs Jamie Oliver and Michael Schwartz have their own restaurants aboard the ship.
In short, it’s one incredible ship.
What’s a girl to pack?
Outfits that can go from a trapeze bar to a real bar, obviously. And are weather-appropriate for northeastern waters in November. And can fit inside this bag.
Challenge accepted. Here’s what I packed for our two-day getaway aboard the Anthem of the Seas:
Pants: Normally I’d just wear a pair of Topshop Leigh jeans (my favorites, especially for travel) and call it a day. But with the variety of active activities, a pair of Zella leggings are better suited for trapeze, sky diving, and bumper cars.
Tops: The Didion blouse from MM.LaFleur is my favorite for day-to-night wear – just add some jewelry and a new lip, and you’re set. I’m also packing my Everlane short-sleeved sweater and a Wildfox sweatshirt to round out my shirt options.
Shoes: Thank you, sartorial gods, for making sneakers cool again. I’ll be wearing my gold and white New Balance kicks for most of the time. Come nightfall, I’ll be swapping them for Nicholas Kirkwood heels that are as comfortable as they are stylish. Rounding out my 3 pairs of shoes are flip flops for lounging by the pool.
Bags & Jewelry: The Pearl is the only bag I’m bringing, along with my luggage. Worn crossbody during the day and clutch during the evening, it’s the only bag I’ll need for our two day getaway. For jewelry, I’m packing a handful of favorites – Julie Vos coin necklace and pearl bracelet and edgy earrings.
Outerwear: With unseasonably warm weather, my MM.LaFleur Graham sweater and a brightly patterned scarf (that also doubles up as a pool sarong) are more than enough. I may also toss in my Uniqlo puffer – just in case the weather turns for the worse.
I can already taste my embarrassing frozen pool drink – made by a robot, of course.
