Packing Guide: Weekend in Napa

I’m currently plotting how I can fit in a Napa weekend during my book tour, because our trip last fall was just that good.

Also, the wine. THE WINE.

If this packing guide looks familiar, it’s because it is. Many of the pieces I packed for Vancouver are the same. The skinny jeans, striped tee, anorak, and boots are what I call my Power Pieces (which I lay out in my book). Power Pieces are staples I reach for time and time again, at home and when I’m packing.

And given that our weekend had a lot of rain in the forecast, it makes sense that many of the items overlapped.

Here’s what I packed for our Napa getaway…

PANTS

My high-rise skinny jeans and these jean leggings from Rag & Bone are my favorite pants to pack. They hold their shape after several wears, look great on, and accommodate travel chub without being uncomfortable.

TOPS

Napa is very casual, which Victoria gave us a heads up about before we arrived. I stuck with my tried-and-true favorites – a striped top (as seen in Baltimore and Vancouver), a seasonally appropriate plaid shirt, and simple black tees for layering. This draped cardigan helped keep me warm while wandering around Yountville and on the flight home.

OUTERWEAR

This Everlane anorak is the perfect jacket – period. Anytime I see rain in the forecast, I grab this coat immediately.

SHOES

I beat my own rule and only packed two pairs of shoes for this trip – my trusty rain boots and my favorite ballet flats. Granted, I wore the boots the entire time we were in Napa (again, rain). But the flats were perfect to wear on the long flight home.

BAGS

A small crossbody bag is perfect for Napa. I love and frequently wear my Chanel WOC, but I would also recommend the Lo & Sons Pearl in saffiano, the Dagne Dover Tiny Tote, or a Mansur Gavriel bucket bag. For my larger bag, I packed my Cuyana tote (which also served me well when running around San Francisco for meetings). Both held up perfectly – pun intended.
