Peace up, A-town down

I’ve visited Atlanta pretty regularly for the past 5 years or so; my favorite aunt moved back there back in ’05 and I love going to visit her.  And eat her really yummy food.  And watch marathons of the Real Housewives with her in person (instead of our usual text conversations about the show).

However, this past weekend was one of the first times I’ve actually visited the Southern city, and I had a wonderful time.  And I got to eat my aunt’s amazing shrimp curry (yes, the recipe will be posted on the wedding website) and dish on how we’re on Team Bethenny this season.  The boy and I flew in and out of the city for his friend’s wedding and family time, but we also spent some time in the fun city.  Here are my favorites from the weekend (and I’m not putting my aunt’s house on this list, because I don’t want to share. Ha):

Stay: The Renaissance Hotel

We stayed here since it was the location of his college friends’ wedding and we got the discounted rate (score).  But I would stay here again; its central location, in-hotel Starbucks, and the rooftop pool (which we didn’t use, but I like that it’s there) makes it a winner in my book.  The room-service biscuits were pretty awesome, and the only thing that would’ve made them better is gravy.  When in Rome, people…

Eat: Fritti

Nom nom nom is what I have to say about Fritti‘s excellent “Crocchette di Melanzane” and “Robiola e Pesto” pizza, which I inhaled without a second thought.  Though Mr. S and I were (very) late in meeting his friends, we were seated immediately, had amazing service, and were served a complimentary Nutella dessert pizza in celebration of our engagement.  If you go to this delectable gem, ask the bartender what the mint-citrus-better-than-a-mojito concoction is.  And what’s in it.  And post these details on my blog.  Thanks :)

Play: Apres Diem

After stuffing our faces at Fritti, we continued the “Hitha-Meets-The-Friends” night at Apres Diem.  I hesitated when we pulled into a shopping center parking lot, thinking “why are we going to Trader Joe’s?”  Random location aside (not so random, considering there are nightlife spots in strip malls in the South), the lounge-y atmosphere was perfect to meet more of Sri’s friends and chat over drinks and dessert.

And oh, the dessert.

I had the best chocolate cake with white chocolate frosting, but was sorely tempted by the blueberry cheesecake and the chocolate pecan tart (next time, for sure).  We stuck to beers that night, but the wine and cocktail list definitely looked appealing.  I loved that the art on the walls was done by local artists and was for sale, and in my buzzed state, considered buying a couple of those pieces (until I forgot I have no walls no hang them upon.  Whoops.)

Atlanta, we had a blast.  I can’t wait to come back.

And because it’s a cute picture and I’m trying to get better at documenting my life via “SD card”, here’s a pic of me and the boy at the wedding.

Aren’t we cute?
