‘Basic’ has gotten a bad rap lately.
Obvious. Unsophisticated. Transparent. Usually followed by the term ‘bitch.’
I prefer the word’s original meaning. Essential. Fundamental. Having a high pH (sorry, couldn’t resisit).
Basic is an excellent quality for one’s wardrobe. I’ll take a smaller selection of essential items that pair beautifully together than a crammed closet filled with random, eclectic styles.
The most comfortable jeans. A flattering blazer in warm caramel. Light-as-air t-shirts. A walkable flat in luxurious calf hair.
Basic? Perhaps. My preferred style? Absolutely.
And yes, the Mansur Gavriel bag is so basic – but I don’t care. That sucker fits all my stuff in a stylish manner. It was worth every penny and month I waited for it, and I’m tempted to snag it in black too.
