June showers bring…what, exactly?

For me, they bring about an insane burst of productivity.  When the weather is gloomy, I love nothing more an assembling the #instacliche of flowers, a burning candle, a cup of tea, and some music as I pound away on my keyboard.  Days like the ones we’re having in NYC make me miss Seattle, just a tiny bit.  That may be why I wear my Birkenstocks to get a café au lait from Blue Bottle when I need an extra jolt.

In the ongoing effort for balance, I’m staying in most nights this week (save for my gal Alanna’s birthday drinks last night).  I just started to leave my laptop on my desk and shut the door every evening when I’ve wrapped up work for the day.  It’s been…interesting.  Interesting good, but definitely an adjustment.

This weekend, we’re meeting up with friends for a casual Friday happy hour, catching the new X-Men on Saturday before heading to NJ for a family party, and hopefully basking in the sun on Sunday.  I need to finish this book for book club next week! Let’s get to the links, shall we?

  • This article on the worldwide fascination with Beyoncé is worth a read.  Love her, hate her, or feel ambivalent about her, there’s no doubt that she’s a cultural force unlike any other.
  • What terrifies me about our healthcare system is how the major providers profit off keeping people sick.  They also benefit in convincing people that they’re sick – when they’re not.
  • Big props to Hallie and her awesome feature in the Smart Girls’ Guide.
  • One of my favorite brands, M.M. LaFleur, just launched the most perfect diamond jewelry.  Naturally, I want all of it.
  • And while we’re on the jewelry front, BaubleBar just debuted its same day delivery in NYC.  Getting this choker and this ring delivered on Monday was a definite mood lifter.
  • Are people really this dumb?  Sadly, yes.

What’s new with you this week?  Any exciting plans coming up this month?  COMMENT below – I would love to know!
